What is an Alliance? An “Alliance” is an agreement or friendship between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests.

You will soon receive a press release but I wanted to make sure you heard this great news from your own organization first. With that being said and with great pleasure, I want to inform you that Oconee Futbol Club has reached an agreement with the Oconee Parks & Recreation Department to form the Oconee Soccer Alliance. The scope of the partnership by the formation of the “Oconee Soccer Alliance” is designed to consolidate quality Recreation, Academy, Classic and Athena play in the community. You will soon receive a press release about this agreement but I wanted to let all of you know first. I want to thank all of you for helping OFC reach this milestone. A dream will now turn into a community wide mission to make Oconee one of the premier soccer locations in the state and the region.

This partnership is the work of many people that has taken place over several years. Not only is it the work by many individuals, it is the work of all of you! Leaders in the club such as Dante Trevino & Pat Mercardante (who both deserve special recognition), Brian Kane, Mike White, Andy Pokoski and myself have had many meetings with the county. We have had many others in the development and administration Gina Powell, Teri Pokoski, Susanne Barfield, Steve Thomas, Brian and Mary Davis. But it was the work of the coaches and team managers. It was the volunteers, who put on the tournaments and helped in many areas, and the players who made a huge impact. It was also the county staff, lead by John Gentry, who have made this possible. As a club, we have made an impact on the county both economically and in the exposure of elite soccer. Although we have been successful, we now have the numbers and additions resources to achieve even greater success.

I am sure you will wonder what this means for soccer within the club. This Alliance means all players (recreation, Jr Academy, Academy, Select and Athena, Indoor and Adult) in both organizations will play under one banner, The Oconee Soccer Alliance. The club will have more than one thousand players registered under GA Soccer, US Youth Soccer, and US Club Soccer. Coaching will be under the Direction of Dante Trevino. We will work closely with the recreational teams to provide exposure to premier level training. We will hold training clinics for coaches and move all recreation coaches to complete a licensed education certificate. All areas of player training will be enhanced and migrated to all ages and levels of play. For the Academy and Select programs, we have the opportunity to offer high level training and play to a large pool of players.

There is much more that will be implemented and you will learn more soon. This is a great day for soccer in Oconee. It is the culmination of years of work but now we begin anew. We will make this Alliance a premier soccer organization. We are well on the way already and now have an entire community to call on to make our mark in the soccer world.

OSA PRESS RELEASE

Camp curriculum will focus primarily on ball control, finishing and shooting. Players will improve technical ability, decision making, increase their confidence, and improve their ball control and the ability to score.

Training groups will be age and skill appropriate.

• When: April 9th-13th Mon. – Fri. 9am to 12noon
• Where: Oconee Veterans Park (Watkinsville)
• Registration: $95 / $85 for second child

We will train on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Academy will be from 5:30-7:00 and Jr Academy from 4:30-5:30.

Academy began training on Tuesday, February 7th!

Junior Academy will begin March 6th

Some examples on how we all can use Twitter is to notify everyone if we have to cancel a training, updates on games and tournaments scores and training tips .  You can check Twitter via computer or phone and will see the message. You can set up to be notified too if you want. We hope this will increase effective communications for the club. It will not help every person but will help with the vast majority.  Look for a notice soon on our Facebook page to also be a tool to communicate with the club.
